Mid-week reminders, thank-yous, and updates!
Hi Sturgeons!
I hope everyone is having a good last week of October. I just wanted to take a moment to give everyone a few update and reminders. I will try to be brief. First off, thank you all for a great start, It has been my pleasure. I am so excited to be at the start of what is going to be a great 6 months.
Reminders:
Tomorrow is Halloween and I will not be at practice. Coach Kari will be holding a shortened practice for those of you who are not participating in Halloween festivities or are joining in on the fun later in the evening. Please let us know if you are planning on coming so coach Kari can be prepared.
Friday is a make-up practice for everyone. In fact, if people want it, we are considering having Friday be a make-up practice always and opening it up to the younger groups going forward. More on that later.
Thank Yous:
I want to say a special thank you to Alma Mujezinovic (Hamza's mom) for creating a wonderful dryland program for our Over 11 group and helping us coaches run those sessions. I for one, have been feeling the positive effects of doing a few of those workouts with the swimmers. Thank you, we are lucky to have your help!
Also thank you to Erin Sutherland (Susie and Winnie's mom) for setting up a team instagram for us!

Updates:
Meets-
I have until this Sunday November 3rd to make updates or last minute additions to the entry list for the UVAC meet on November 9th and 10th. So please let me know by then if you want your swimmer added to the meet or you want to make changes to your swimmers events.
Cut times for Silver and Bronze Championships are updated for this season. Please see our sign up calendar in the swim meet tab of our website for our meet schedule. If you want your swimmer to shoot for Bronze and Silver cut times for those championships, you will want them to get times at these next few meets (all at UVAC Nov. 9-10, Dec. 7-8, and Jan. 5th). Meet sign-ups are open for the December 7-8th meet. Please let me know if you plan on attending by declaring on the website. If you have any questions, shoot me a text or an email.
Another meet option I am working on is getting a few home meets. I got us entered into a USA swimming pilot program called Block Party Swimming that allows us to run swim meets with times that count for Bronze and Silver qualification with less hassle than the normal meet sanctioning process (think more like summer meets and less like UVAC meets). I am in the process of figuring out how I roll that out, but stay tuned. My goal is to offer 1 block party home meet a month. I am really excited about this and I think it is going to be a great opportunity for our team.
While the kids are training, I need us parents to think about training and getting the certification to become stroke and turn officials or administrative officials with US swimming. Look at how to become an official on the US Swimming Website. If you have an questions please reach out to me. I would be happy to direct and applaud you. Becoming an official is the single greatest thing you can do to assure we can run meets for our kids now and in the future. It does not take great knowledge of swimming, just a willingness to learn and attention to details.
Coaching
We have so many wonderful youngsters that we have hired 2 new St. Michael's College swimmers as coaches to help us out. Please welcome Liam Jordan and Calvin Baird to our Sturgeon Team! We are happy to have them with us!
Thanks and sorry I was not so brief, but turns out I had a lot I needed to share. Thanks everyone and see you at the pool!
Coach Hilary
