Happy Monday Sturgeons!
Happy Monday Sturgeons-
I want to take a moment to congratulate you all on a successful mock meet, we had a lot of good times and fun memories. For some it was their very first meet and they did wonderfully. I hope to be able to offer this experience more, because I think it allows us to foster the competitive spirit in its most basic state (with very little extrinsic rewards or recognition). Swimmers get to test out new events and first experiences in the safety of their home pool, surrounded by their teammates and loved ones. Not to mention it breaks up the monotony of the grind and allows us to tap into a higher level of speed and stamina than at a normal practice. I have attached a copy of the results to this email and they are also included in past events under the schedule tab on our website. Thank you everyone for coming and making this a successful event.
If you are looking for more competitive events, the fun is not over, sign up for the 14&Under pentathlon at UVAC on Sunday March 1st. Warm-ups do not start until 11am and the meet will be done by 4pm at the latest. So most of your drive will be in the light. It is a pretty easy day if you are not the swimmer. So sign-up today. We have been working hard on all the strokes so this would be a good chance to test them all out.
We also have the New Hampshire State Champs, at UVAC on March 13th and 14th. This one is very similar to summer states (if you are familiar with this meet). It is a good one with relays and team scoring. I would love to get a full squad to take to make some waves at UVAC. Sign up for that one too.
Disruptions this week:
Tomorrow Tuesday the 10th, the Women’s Basketball team has a game and they have asked us to stay out of the hallway by their locker room. We can enter by the pool entrance (single metal door we use over break times) or there is the far hallway by the block end of the pool and the vending machine. I can prop a door there as well.
No practice Wednesday the 11th, the college swim team needs the pool for a pre-championships practice.
Practice Friday the 13th is a make-up practice for everyone, all start at 5:30pm.
5:30-6:15pm Little Fry’s
5:30-6:30pm Crimson
5:30-7pm Teal and Big Sturgeons
While I have your attention, I have one more request. Please purchase the necessary equipment for your child to participate in swim team. If they do not have this equipment with them it is hard for them to fully participate. We are unable to keep anything on site. We do not have access to the equipment room.
Here is the list I included in the welcome email. If you joined late and did not get it please reach out to me with any questions you might have.
Swim Outlet is the best/cheapest source for a lot of this gear:
For the littlest group we like these:
Long Sporti Fins on SwimOutlet
For the older groups we like these:
Also it would be nice if you could bring a kick board:

And a Pullbouy for the older groups:

We (my coaches, me and my kids) love these mesh bags for carrying this wet gear in:

Also a swimsuit, cap, and goggles are a necessity. If I gave your swimmer a plain CVSA cap during a meet or practice and you have not paid for it they are 15$. I take cash or Venmo. Reach out to me if you have questions.
Alright I think that is it. I am trying hard to work within the facility constraints and provide you all with the best possible experience I can. Thank you all for being part of this journey with us. Thank you for getting your swimmers where they need to be ready to go at the start of practice time. Thank you for your partnership in this, together we can get these kids really good at swimming! Go Sturgeons!
Coach Hilary
